How Conscious Hotels fairly rewards permanent and flexible employees

Conscious Hotel also employs workers with both fixed and flexible contracts, something that is unavoidable in the hospitality world. Their flex pool consists of students, whose available time varies weekly, but also of employees who want to work for a while and then travel for a while. Sometimes for one, sometimes two, sometimes for three months. But how do you reward people with a flexible contract, or a contract without fixed hours, fairly compared to colleagues with a fixed contract?

Fully Sustainable

With a name like Conscious Hotels, you can’t ignore it. Conscious Hotels focuses on sustainability. The locations are fully electric, furnished with recycled furniture, and have a 100% organic and vegetarian kitchen. Marco Lemmers, the founder and CEO of Conscious Hotels, explains it as follows: ‘Sustainability is the core of our concept.’ For them, it’s all about being “Big Smiles” and “Eco-Sexy.”

Conscious Hotels wants to make “eco” not just sexy, but to claim the term Eco-Sexy as much as possible by making their product – their locations – as attractive as possible. ‘The only way to save the planet is to seduce people to join in. 'That can be done with a very attractive proposition,’ says Marco.

‘We went for Alleo so that we could offer personalized secondary employment benefits while also focusing on sustainability. This way we can tailor our offerings to our diverse employees.’ - Marco Lemmers, CEO and founder of Conscious Hotels

Big Smiles

In addition to the focus on sustainability, Conscious Hotels also wants to deliver “Big Smiles.” How do they get that smile on your face? ‘It’s about taking good care of your employees,’ says Marco Lemmers. And offering the right benefits to all their employees is part of that.

’If we were to compare all the benefits offered in the hotel industry, we see that they are a bit boring. They are all a bit the same. That’s why we wanted to offer something unique that suits all our employees.’ - Carla Ridder, Head of People & Innovation

To show appreciation to the employees, Conscious Hotels decided to offer a benefits package that would fit everyone’s personal situation and specific wishes. Alleo was the perfect solution. Of course, the People & Development department could have put together an offer themselves, but with the wide selection in the Alleo app, people can choose their benefits themselves. It leads to fewer restrictions and disappointments because certain benefits are not available everywhere.

Benefits for all employees

Conscious Hotels aims to reward all their employees fairly. Employees with a fixed contract receive a fixed amount of monthly budget. They can freely spend this budget via the Alleo app, including for subscriptions.

For employees with a flexible contract, the reward is based on hours worked. Every hour worked earns a certain amount of budget. This budget is saved monthly and paid out each quarter in the app. Employees can spend this budget on one-time benefits, such as gift cards for The School of Life or Peakz Padel.

Additionally, all employees have access to existing benefits from Conscious Hotels. This includes discounts on food, drinks, and overnight stays, which are also available in the Alleo app. This allows both fixed and flexible employees to benefit from a wide range of advantages.

The Impact

Conscious Hotels can now reward all their employees extra for their hard work. It’s one of the ways they ensure “Big Smiles.” And that is appreciated. ‘Everyone was super positive about the offer and the opportunity to receive some extra budget.’ - Jasmine van Denderen, Talent Partner at Conscious Hotels.

“I hope that people truly feel that we appreciate them." And that they are also happy with the choices they have, which they didn’t have before. We feel that we offer a unique range of benefits compared to our competitors.” - Carla Ridder
